You can make your own LBo-Stylesheet

Hi everybody,

As you might have noticed, Anita and I were having quite a bit of fun doing CSS for the site.

Want to join in? It’ easy!

If you are new to CSS, http://www.brainjar.com/css/using/ is a good place to get started.

Take any of the stylesheets[*] already in existance and copy them to a place on the web where you can edit them. This can be your server, or some webspace at a free-webhost. Post the URL of your copy to [LBo-dev], and I or Anita will add another selection to the styleswitcher. You can then modify your CSS and see the the effect right away, on the real site!

Alternatively, if you don’t have a public place on the web where you can conveniently edit, you can download our version of DokuWiki: http://beta.linuxbasics.org/making/lbowiki and style it on your own linux-machine. When you are done (or at least got so far that you want to have some feedback from [LBo-dev], mail me your “style.css” and I will put it on the server for you.

Have fun,

Stefan

[*]: How to get the stylesheets: First, find out the URL of the stylesheet. You do that by looking at the page-source of “http://beta.linuxbasics.org

It starts with something like:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
 "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en" dir="ltr">
<head>
  <title>making:lbowiki [LBo]</title>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
  <meta name="generator" content="DokuWiki Release 2005-02-18a
" />
  <link rel="stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" href="/style.css" />
  <link rel="alternate stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" title="BlueFlavour" href="/blueflavourstyle.css" />
  <link rel="alternate stylesheet" media="screen" type="text/css" title="C64-BasicV2.0" href="http://stefan.waidele.info/C64-BasicV2.0.css" />
...
...

Those last lines are references to the stylesheets. Those starting with a slash / have to be prepended with http://beta.linuxbasics.org/ Those starting with http:// can be taken as they are.

Now that you have the location of you favorite stylesheet, get it with “wget http://beta.linuxbasics.org/blueflavourstyle.css” or simply typing that CSS-URL into the adress-bar of your browser. Save to disk and you are set.
