Tutorial Structure

Your Stylesheet - how to get your design integrated into LBo

Searchable Archives - How I made our Mailman/Pipermail archive searchable through the DokuWIki searchbox

GenerateCompleteIndex - How to generate the complete-index page

Editing the list-archives - Censorship is required by law. If somebody posts illegal content to the mailing-list, it is against the list-rules. The poster is responsible for that. But if we continue to provide the information on our web-site (within the list’s archives, we can be in trouble!

PDF-Export - This is how we implemented the PDF-export-function. (That orange “pdf” link in the top-right corner of the page).

Software we use

…and what we learned about it.

LinuxBasics.org is using some fine pieces of open-source-software to run this site. While building LBo, we needed to find out many things about DokuWiki and Mailman, just to name the most important pieces.

Here we are trying to pay back the community by making the information we needed to puzzle together public. Maybe it saves somebody else some work.

Mainly, we use these pages to keep the information together, so we can find it again someday… :)

Linux - http://www.linux.org - The whole site is about it :) In Welcome to the real world you find some of the techniques we use on the server.

The LBo-flavor of DokuWiki - Highly undocumented :) you might want to go to the original DokuWIki first.

Mailman - http://list.org - A widely used system for mailing-lists. The Mailman-FAQ is not linked directly from the homepage.

The old system - We used to use Zope, Plone, and ZWiki to build LinuxBasics.org. This combination proved to be quite slow on our machine, so we changed.
