2005-09-10: Rute class is about to start

This post explains the basic requirements for the course, like joining the [LBo]-mailing-list. It is the only message that has been sent not to the [LBo]-list, but to everybody individually. Thus it is not in the list-archives :(

This post has been heavily edited. If you want the ‘historic version’ that went to all subscribers, check this page's history.

Hello everybody,

summer vacations are over and our LBo-class is about to start on September 15th.

It is time to make some final preparations, so everybody can participate.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Make sure you receive the LBo-mailinglist.

You recognize these mails by the [LBo] in their subject line. If you do not have those in your inbox, it is time to visit mailman: listinfo and subscribe to the list.

You do need access to the RUTE-book.

Depending on your internet-connection, you might want to download a copy to your PC, so you do not have to go online in order to read it. Details can be found in the course describtion and on the page about getting the RUTE-PDF

You need to have access to a computer that is running linux.

If you did not install Linux yet, now is the time to do so. In case you have problems with that, you can ask on the mailing-list for assistance: qna@LinuxBasics.org

Try joining the IRC-channel

If you have never tried out the Internet Relay Chat, you should do so now:

You should see something like the screenshot in our IRC tutorial

Ready to go!

With those 4 steps described above, you will be ready for class. We are looking forward to an interesting learning experience with you during the weeks to come. Don’t forget to post your questions and comments to the list: qna@LinuxBasics.org

Yours,

Anita, Sam and Stefan :contact
